Your firm's standard details are often already in Pirros, scattered across past projects: the same parapet, window head or roof drain, redrawn on job after job. Pirros Library Builder finds those repeated details, files each one under a building system, and recommends the version that would make the best typical. You decide which ones become firm standards, and Library Builder shows how much of your library your typicals already cover.
Before you start:
The Manage Typical Library permission. The Admin role has it. To add it to a custom role, go to Settings → Access & Identity → Roles, edit the role, and turn on View Typical Suggestions and Manage Typical Library, both under Typical Suggestions.
Uploaded projects. Library Builder looks for details used on more than one project, so it works best once several of your project models are in Pirros. See Uploading Projects and Source Files.
Your typicals, if you have them. Details already in your typicals library count toward your coverage. See How to set up a container file for typical details.
How Library Builder Works
Groups. Pirros groups details that look alike across your projects. Library Builder sometimes calls a group a cluster. A group appears once the same detail has been used on enough different projects: two for most firms, rising to as many as ten as your library grows. A group that includes one of your typicals always appears.
Systems. Pirros uses AI to file each group under a building system from the ASTM Uniformat II standard, such as Parapets, Curtain Walls or Flashings & Trim, so related details sit together.
A recommended detail. Pirros scores every detail in a group on how good a typical it would make and recommends the highest-scoring one. See What the Scores Mean below.
Coverage. A system's coverage is the share of the details in its groups that are already covered by a typical. Library coverage is the same figure across all your systems.
Run Library Builder for the First Time
In the left navigation, under Review, click Library Builder.
The first time, the page says No systems yet. Click Run builder, then click Run builder again to confirm.
An Analyzing Library card shows the progress, for example 120 of 480 groups built. Most runs finish in under half an hour, and a large library can take a couple of hours. You can leave the page while it runs.
When it finishes, your results appear on the Overview tab.
One run at a time. To stop a run, click Cancel under the progress bar, then Cancel Run. Library Builder goes on showing the results of your last finished run, so cancelling your first run takes you back to No systems yet.
The Overview Tab
Library Builder has three tabs along the top: Overview, Systems and Needs Review. The Overview sums up your whole library:
Coverage chart: your systems sorted by coverage into Needs attention (under 40%), In progress (40% to 74%) and Healthy (75% or more).
Library coverage: how much of your grouped library a typical already covers, for example 312 of 1,040 details covered.
Suggestions: groups you haven't reviewed yet.
Typicals: groups that already include one of your typicals.
No coverage: systems without a single typical.
Needs review: up to eight of the groups you've added to review, most used first. Click one to open it in its system.
Browse Your Systems
On the Systems tab you work through your library one system at a time.
The list on the left sorts systems into categories, such as Exterior Enclosure – Exterior Walls. Click a category to open or close it. To find a system, click the magnifying glass at the top right and type its name.
Each system shows how many suggestions and typicals it has, and a small ring for its coverage.
Click a system to see its coverage and four tabs: Suggestions, Review, Typicals and Dismissed.
Each card is one group. It shows the group's recommended detail, its name, how many details it holds and a Revit version tag such as R24. The groups used on the most projects and downloaded most often come first.
Review a Group
On a system's Suggestions tab, click a group. A window lists every detail in it: any typical first, then the recommended detail, then the rest by score. The number on each detail is its score.
Click a detail to open it in a new browser tab, so you keep your place in Library Builder.
Decide what to do with the group:
It should be a typical. Hover the detail you want as the typical and click Add to review. That detail becomes the group's recommended detail, and the group moves to the Review tab.
It isn't a firm standard. Click Dismiss at the top right of the window, add a reason if you like, and click Dismiss. The group moves to the Dismissed tab.
You're not sure yet. Close the window. The group stays in Suggestions.
Dismissing can't be undone. A dismissed group stays on the Dismissed tab, where you can still open it, but you can't move it back. To dismiss every suggestion in a system at once, open the ⋯ menu next to the system's name and choose Dismiss All.
What the Scores Mean
A detail's score, from 0 to 100, estimates how good a typical it would make. Pirros weighs four things, most important first:
Health: the detail's health score, when it has one.
Downloads: how often your team downloads it, compared with the other details in the group.
View type: drafting views score highest, then detail views.
Completeness: whether it has notes, a scale and text Pirros can read, and whether it can be downloaded.
Scores of 75 and up show in green, 50 to 74 in yellow, 25 to 49 in red and anything lower in black.
Turn Reviewed Groups into Typicals
A system's Review tab lists the groups you've added to review. Each shows its recommended detail with three buttons:
Remove moves the group back to Suggestions.
View Cluster opens the group. To use a different detail as the typical, hover it and click Make recommended.
Insert sends the detail to the Revit model you have open. When Revit isn't connected, the button reads Stage and queues the detail to download into Revit later.
Stash All, above the list, adds the recommended detail of every group on the tab to your active stash in one click. If you don't have an active stash, Pirros asks you to create one first. See Create Stashes.
Library Builder never changes your typicals library on its own. To make a detail a typical, bring it into your typicals container model, update it to your standards and sync it as a typical. How to Convert a Project Detail into a Typical Detail in Pirros walks through each step. Once it's synced, the next refresh moves the group to the Typicals tab and your coverage goes up.
To see everything in review across all your systems, open the Needs Review tab at the top of Library Builder. Click a card to open its system's Review tab.
Keep Library Builder Up to Date
Weekly refresh. After your first run, Pirros refreshes Library Builder automatically about once a week, overnight, to pick up new projects and new typicals.
Refresh any time. On the Systems tab, click Refresh, then Run builder. It's worth doing after you upload projects or sync new typicals. You can keep working while it runs: your current results stay on screen until the new ones are ready.
Your decisions carry over. Groups in Review stay in Review, dismissed groups stay dismissed, and a detail you picked as the recommended one stays recommended as long as it's still in the group.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I don't see Library Builder in the left navigation.
A: You need the Manage Typical Library permission, which the Admin role has. Ask an admin to add it to your role (see Before you start). If you have it and still don't see Library Builder, contact Pirros support.
Q: Why isn't a detail we use all the time in Library Builder?
A: Usually for one of these reasons:
It hasn't been used on enough different projects yet.
It was uploaded after the last refresh. Click Refresh on the Systems tab.
It's a sheet rather than a detail, or Pirros couldn't read any text in it.
It isn't part of a building system. General notes, schedules and legends don't appear.
Q: A group is filed under the wrong system.
A: Pirros files each group by reading one of its details, so a loosely matched group can land in the wrong system. You can't move a group yourself yet. The weekly refresh files every group again and may correct it.
Q: I synced a typical, but its group is still on the Review tab.
A: Groups move to Typicals at the next refresh, so wait for the weekly one or click Refresh on the Systems tab. Pirros matches a typical to a group by how alike the drawings look, so a typical you've reworked heavily can end up as a group of its own on the Typicals tab. If that happens, you can dismiss the original group.
Q: Why did a group disappear after a refresh?
A: Groups change as your library grows. New uploads can split or merge groups, and the number of projects a group needs rises as you add projects. Groups in Review are always kept.
Q: How is coverage worked out?
A: For each system, Pirros counts the details in its groups and how many of them are in a group that includes a typical. Library coverage does the same across all your systems. Dismissed groups aren't counted, so dismissing a group never lowers your coverage, and neither are one-off details that don't appear in Library Builder.
Q: Does Library Builder change my details?
A: No. Moving a group between tabs only tracks your review. Your library changes only when you sync a detail as a typical, and Stash All and Insert work the same way they do everywhere else in Pirros.
Q: Our firm has more than one workspace.
A: Each workspace has its own Library Builder and its own results. Switch to another workspace to see its results; the first time, click Run builder there too.
