Admin Guide: How to Vet Your Existing Details in Pirros

A step-by-step guide for admins to begin vetting project details and building a Typicals library from an existing standards library.

This guide is intended for Pirros Admins who are ready to take the next step after uploading their firm's existing Typicals library.

You've Uploaded Your Typicals — Now What?

Now that your Typicals library is uploaded to Pirros, your details are indexed and visible across the platform. But before your team starts using them, it's worth asking: are these details ready to use as-is, or do they need to be reviewed first?

In most cases, your existing Typicals were built over time across different projects and teams — which means quality, consistency, and completeness can vary. This is your opportunity as an admin to establish a baseline: confirm which details are truly firm standards, flag the ones that need updates, and remove anything outdated before it gets reused. The good news is Pirros gives you the tools to do this systematically, without starting from scratch.

Step 1 — Confirm Your Library Is Properly Linked to Pirros

Before you begin vetting, make sure your uploaded Typicals are connected to your Container Model correctly. How you do this depends on where your library lives.

If Your Library Lives on ACC / BIM 360

If your Typicals library is hosted on ACC or BIM 360 and is in Revit 2022 or later, no manual re-upload is needed. Your Revit model will automatically sync with the Container Model in ACC, and PirrosIDs will be assigned to all uploaded views automatically.

Navigate to Management → Source Models → Completed Uploads and confirm your Typicals library appears with the project number set to Typical Details. Once confirmed, you're ready to begin vetting.

If Your Library Lives on a Local Server

If your Typicals library is stored on a local or firm-hosted server, you'll need to complete one additional step to ensure Pirros stays in sync going forward:

  1. Upload your existing Typicals Revit model via the Management tab, setting the project number to Typical Details.

  2. Once uploaded, download the source model back from Pirros (Management → Source Models → Completed Uploads) and save it to your firm's server as the primary working file. All future edits should be made to this file to ensure Pirros stays current.

  3. Your library is now linked to Pirros and ready for review.

Step 2 — Use Pirros Library Builder as Your Starting Point

Once your library is linked, the best place to begin your review is Pirros Library Builder. Pirros analyzes your uploaded details and surfaces the ones that appear most consistently across multiple projects — giving you a data-backed starting point for deciding what's worth keeping, updating, or promoting as a firm standard.

To access Library Builder, navigate to Management → Pirros Library Builder. From here, review each suggested detail and decide whether it:

  • Meets your current standards — promote it as a confirmed Typical

  • Needs minor updates — add it to a vetting Stash for further review

  • Is outdated or no longer relevant — set it aside or archive it

Step 3 — Work Through the Rest with Stashes

For details that aren't surfaced by Suggestions, use Stashes to run a structured manual review. A vetting Stash is a holding area where you collect details for evaluation before making any final decisions about what becomes a firm Typical.

Recommended vetting workflow:

  1. Navigate to the Details tab and use filters (by project, discipline, or keyword) to focus on one category at a time — for example, all wall section details across your last five projects.

  2. Hover over details and checkmark the ones that look consistent, high quality, or representative of how your firm builds.

  3. Click the Stash button at the top and save the selected details into a clearly named vetting Stash — e.g., "Wall Sections — Vetting Q2".

  4. Repeat by discipline or detail type, keeping each Stash focused so review sessions stay manageable.

  5. Review populated Stashes with your standards committee or senior staff. Details that pass can be promoted to Typicals; others can be archived or flagged for rework.

Starting Without an Existing Standards Library?

If your firm doesn't have an existing Typicals library and is building one from scratch, the approach is slightly different. See our guide on Setting Up Pirros Without an Existing Standards Library for a full walkthrough.

Admin Tip: Don't try to vet everything at once. Break the review into focused sessions by discipline — start with your most commonly used detail types (e.g., wall sections, roof assemblies) to get quick wins and build momentum before tackling the full library.
