Link Your Revit Project to Pirros (Pirros in Revit and Classic Plugin)

How to link your open Revit model to a Pirros project, step by step for both plugin versions.

Which plugin do you have? In Revit, click the Pirros tab, then Settings, then About. 4.x means Pirros in Revit (docked panel). 3.x or lower means the classic plugin. Follow the matching section below. See Pirros in Revit vs the Classic Plugin for the differences.

Why you link a project

Linking tells Pirros which Pirros project your open Revit model belongs to. Content you download is recorded against that project, and content you sync goes to it. Link your model before you download or sync for the first time.

What's the same in both versions

  • A model links to one Pirros project at a time. To use a different project, change the link first.

  • If a Pirros project with that name and number already exists, your model links to it. If not, Pirros can create it.

  • Don't change the project on a model that has already been synced unless you mean to re-upload everything. Pirros treats every detail as a new upload under the new project, which creates duplicates.

  • Working with several near-identical models, such as a campus? Link all of them to the same Pirros project. See Keeping Multiple Building Models in Sync with Pirros.

Option A: Pirros in Revit (v4.x, docked panel)

  1. Click the Pirros tab in the Revit ribbon and sign in to the panel.

  2. Open Settings in the panel.

  3. Link the project.

Once linked, the project name shows in the panel header, so you can always see where your model is pointing.

Option B: Classic plugin (v3.x)

To download content into a project:

  1. In Revit, click Pirros, then Settings.

  2. Enter the Project Name and Project Number, then click Link.

To upload (sync) content from a model, admins only:

  1. Click Settings, then Login, and sign in.

  2. Click Settings again and open Project Settings.

  3. Choose the model type: Project for project-specific details, or Typical Details for your firm's standard library.

  4. For a Project, enter the Project Name and Project Number. A matching project is linked. If none exists, Pirros creates one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to link a project before I download?

A: Yes, link before your first download so Pirros knows which project the content belongs to.

Q: Can one model link to more than one project?

A: Not at the same time. To upload to a different project, change the link first.

Q: I changed the linked project and now I see duplicates. Why?

A: Pirros treats every detail as a new upload under the new project. Change the project on a synced model only when you intend to re-upload.

Q: What is Typical Details?

A: It's your firm's vetted standard library, as opposed to details tied to a single project.

Q: How do I confirm my plugin version?

A: Pirros tab, then Settings, then About. 4.x is Pirros in Revit and 3.x or lower is classic.
