Import Detail Tags from an Excel File

Updated over 11 months ago

You can add specific tags to certain details or sets of details in order to easily filter through to keywords when searching. With tags, it is easy to organize your details with grouping and keywords for easier reuse by all levels of employees.

When searching through your past project detail, utilize tags to filter down search results to the specific detail you are looking for.

Import Tags from Excel to Pirros

To import a large list of tags for specific details, it is best done by preparing a CSV file that has the PirrosID in one column and any tags in the following columns.

After you are finished, you will send your account manager the CSV file via email so that we will import the tags to your details seamless and quickly.

Create a View List from Revit

The easiest way to find all of your details' PirrosIDs is by exporting it directly from Revit as a "View List" while including the PirrosID parameter.

Just make sure to export the view list from a Revit file with the PirrosIDs!

With this export, you can also include any other Revit parameters that you want to use as tags in the case that you already have some organization in your model.

Steps on how to create a View List from Revit

  1. In a project model, click View tab -> Create Panel -> Schedules drop-down -> View List

  2. On the Fields tab of the View List Properties dialog, select the fields to include in the view list.

    1. Make sure to include the PirrosID field, and other fields that may be helpful for you as you tag details, such as View Name and Title on Sheet

  3. Specify the remaining schedule properties using the Filter, Sorting/Grouping, Formatting, and Appearance tabs.

    1. By default, all project views are included in the view list. Use the Filter Tab to omit views from the list based on their properties.

  4. Click OK.

The resulting view list displays in the drawing area. By creating a view list from Revit, this will create a schedule that you can then export to CSV.

  1. Select the File menu

  2. Click Exports

  3. Click Reports

  4. Find Schedule

  5. Save this as a txt. file type in your folders

    1. The Output Options should be as followed:

      1. Field delimiter: "," or a comma

      2. Text qualified: """ or a quotation mark

  6. Open the file in excel and add in a tags column to begin tagging each detail

If you want to tag a single detail with multiple tags, you must include a " | " in between each additional tag!

View List to Send for Tags

The final result view list should look similar to the attached below. Here, we have included the view name as well to ensure tags are attached the their correct details. In the final import where we bring in your tags, we would remove the Detail View Name column. Any of the details without a PirrosID would be ignored (these are details that never got uploaded likely because they weren't on sheets).

Please use the attached CSV as a template:
