Pirros-Revit Troubleshooting Guide

The master troubleshooting reference for all Revit plugin issues.

Prerequisite: You need admin-level access to your computer to perform most of these steps. If you do not have admin access, work with your IT department.

If you encounter errors in the Pirros Revit plugin β€” failed downloads, sync issues, or the plugin not appearing β€” follow this guide to resolve them. Start with the quick fixes, then move to the full reinstall if needed.

Quick Fixes (Try These First)

1. Update the plugin to the latest version.

Many issues are resolved by simply updating. In Revit, go to the Pirros tab, click Settings then About, and verify you are running the latest version. Enable Auto Update if it is not already checked.

2. Close and reopen Revit.

Some issues are caused by stale plugin state. Close all Revit windows and dialog boxes completely, then reopen Revit.

3. Check your internet connection.

The plugin requires an active internet connection to sync, download, and upload. Verify you can reach app.pirros.com in your browser.

Full Reinstall

If quick fixes do not resolve the issue, perform a clean reinstall:

  1. Close all instances of Revit. Make sure no Revit processes are running in the background (check Task Manager if needed).

  2. Uninstall the Pirros plugin:

    • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

    • Search for Pirros Plugin.

    • Click the entry and click Uninstall.

  3. Remove lingering plugin files. Check these locations on your machine and delete the Pirros folder and Pirros.addin file in each:

    • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\{YEAR}

    • C:\Users\{USER}\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\{YEAR}

The plugin installs for Revit years 2020 through 2026, so check each year folder.

  4. Reinstall the plugin. Download the latest version from app.pirros.com/plugin and run the installer.

  5. Open Revit and verify the Pirros tab appears in the ribbon.

Common Issues

Plugin not appearing in Revit after installation

  • Verify Revit was fully closed during installation.

  • Check that the Pirros.addin file exists in the correct Addins folder for your Revit version.

  • If your firm uses antivirus or endpoint protection, check that it has not quarantined the plugin files.

Duplicate details appearing after sync

  • This typically happens when the model's project assignment has changed. See the article "Understanding How Syncing Works" for details on why this occurs and how to avoid it.

Sync fails with an error message

  • Copy the exact error message and check for a matching entry in the Troubleshooting Upload & Sync Errors article.

  • If the error is not listed, contact Pirros support via the in-app chat with the error message and your plugin version number.

Download appears to succeed but the detail is missing or incorrect in Revit

  • Verify you are on the latest plugin version (minimum 3.2.5 or later).

  • Try downloading the detail again. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall using the full reinstall steps above.

How to Report an Issue

If none of the above resolves your problem:

  1. Note your plugin version (Pirros tab > Settings > About).

  2. Note the exact error message (screenshot if possible).

  3. Note what you were doing when the error occurred (syncing, downloading, uploading, etc.).

  4. Contact Pirros support via the in-app chat (purple speech bubble in the bottom-right of the Pirros web app) or email [email protected].

FAQ

Q: How do I know what version of the plugin I am running?

A: In Revit, click the Pirros tab, then Settings > About. The version number is displayed at the top.

Q: Do I need to reinstall the plugin for every Revit version?

A: No. The installer handles all supported Revit versions (2020–2027) in a single installation.

Q: The plugin was working yesterday but not today. What changed?

A: Check if your firm deployed a Windows or Revit update overnight. Also check if your antivirus quarantined plugin files. Try the quick fixes first, then the full reinstall if needed.

Q: My firm manages plugin installations centrally through IT. What should I do?

A: Ask your IT team to deploy the latest plugin version using the remote installation commands documented in the "How to Install or Uninstall the Pirros Plugin Remotely" article.
