Upload Failed: What the Error Messages Mean

A reference guide to every upload error message and how to resolve each one.

Updated over a week ago

If an upload fails, Pirros shows an error message next to the affected file. This article explains what each message means and what to do next.

This file was saved in a newer version of Revit than expected

What happened: The model was saved in a Revit version newer than what Pirros used for processing. Pirros uses the version suffix in the filename to select the right Revit version — if no suffix is present, it falls back to a default.

Fix: Add your Revit version to the filename (e.g., MyProject_R25.rvt for Revit 2025, or MyProject_R24.rvt for Revit 2024), then upload again.

This cloud-based model has not been saved in your current Revit version

What happened: The ACC-hosted model has not been published in the current Revit release. Pirros reads the published version, which is still on the older version.

Fix: Publish the model from ACC. Alternatively, open the model in Revit and use File → Detach from Central to create a local copy, then upload that file.

Your session expired during processing

What happened: The Autodesk authentication token expired before the processing job finished.

Fix: Try uploading again. If this keeps happening, go to Account Settings → Profile, disconnect your Autodesk account, and reconnect it.

Authentication failed

What happened: Pirros could not authenticate with Autodesk during processing. This usually means the Autodesk app authorization has expired or been revoked.

Fix: Try uploading again. If this continues, go to Account Settings → Profile, disconnect your Autodesk account, and reconnect it.

This workshared file cannot be processed

What happened: The central model encountered a worksharing conflict that prevented Pirros from opening it.

Fix: Open the file in Revit, use File → Detach from Central, and upload the detached copy instead of the workshared file.

This workshared file is currently checked out by another user

What happened: Another user has the model checked out in Revit. Pirros cannot open a workshared file while it is actively checked out by someone.

Fix: Ask the user with the model open to check in their changes (or use Relinquish All Mine). Once no one has the file checked out and it is fully closed, try uploading again.

This file cannot be opened

What happened: Revit could not open the file. Common causes: the file is password-protected, corrupted, or was saved with an unsupported add-in.

Fix:

  1. Open the file in Revit — check the Audit option in the open dialog

  2. Save a clean copy

  3. Upload the clean copy to Pirros

This Revit model appears to be corrupted

What happened: The model file has internal errors that prevent it from being processed.

Fix: Open the file in Revit (check the Audit option in the open dialog), save a clean version, and upload again. If the problem persists, the file may be too damaged to recover.

This upload generated too much processing output

What happened: The processing log was too large to capture the full error details. This usually happens with very large or complex models.

Fix: Contact [email protected] with the source file name so we can investigate.

The model is too large or complex to process

What happened: Pirros ran out of memory while processing the model.

Fix:

  1. In Revit, use Manage → Purge Unused to remove unused elements

  2. Consider splitting the model into smaller files

  3. Reduce detail levels where possible before uploading

If the model still fails after simplifying, contact [email protected] with the source file name.

An internal processing error occurred

What happened: Pirros encountered invalid or deleted elements in the model that caused a processing failure.

Fix: Contact [email protected] with the source file name so we can investigate.

Failed to process views or PDFs

What happened: One or more views or PDF exports failed during processing. This may be caused by complex detail geometry or viewport issues in the model.

Fix: Try uploading again. If this persists, contact [email protected] with the source file name.

No detail types were selected

What happened: The upload was started without selecting any view types to extract.

Fix: In the upload settings, select at least one type — Drafting Views, Detail Views, or Sheets — and try again.

Processing took too long and timed out

What happened: The model was too large or complex to process within the time limit.

Fix: Try uploading again. If it keeps timing out, use the Upload Settings to limit which view types are extracted. If the problem continues, contact [email protected].

A network error occurred during processing

What happened: A connection issue interrupted the upload. This is usually temporary.

Fix: Wait a few minutes and try uploading again. If the error persists, contact [email protected].

Processing failed without specific error details

What happened: The upload failed but the processing logs did not capture a specific error.

Fix: Try uploading again. If this persists, contact [email protected].

This upload failed but the system could not determine why

What happened: The system received no usable error information from the processing job.

Fix: Try uploading again. If this continues, contact [email protected].
