How to Use Revit Live Link (And How to Disable It)

What Live Link does, when to use it, and how to turn it off if it's not right for your workflow.

Live Link is a Pirros plugin feature that automatically keeps your downloaded details connected to the Pirros library.

What Live Link Does

  • Monitors details in your open Revit model that were downloaded from Pirros

  • Checks whether newer versions are available in the Pirros library

  • Displays a notification when an update is available (see Download Latest article)

When to Use Live Link

Live Link is helpful when:

  • You're working on an active project in Revit and downloading/syncing content to Pirros.

When to Disable Live Link

Some users prefer to disable Live Link because:

  • On large models with many Pirros details, it may add minor overhead during model operations (large uploads and frequent project switches)

  • Your workflow may not require real-time update awareness

How to Disable Live Link

  1. Open Revit with the Pirros plugin loaded

  2. Click the Pirros tab in the top ribbon

  3. Click Live Link Icon

  4. Toggle it to off

  5. The icon will then turn grey

Live Link is disabled only for your session and model. Other team members' settings are not affected.

What Happens Next

With Live Link enabled, you'll see your live model in the website when updates are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does disabling Live Link mean I won't get any update notifications?

A: You won't get real-time notifications in Revit, but you'll still receive email notifications (if enabled in your Pirros account settings) when details you've downloaded are updated.

Q: Does Live Link automatically change details in my model?

A: No. Live Link notifies you that an update is available β€” it does not change your model automatically. You choose whether to download the updated version.

Q: Can my admin force Live Link on for the whole firm?

A: No. Live Link is a per-user setting controlled from the Revit plugin.
