1. Identify the Details to Standardize
Start by deciding which details from your active or past projects you want to make typical.
Ask questions like:
Which details are used frequently across multiple projects?
Which details should represent our firm’s standard approach or best practice?
Once you’ve identified them, locate those details in Pirros by searching for relevant keywords (e.g., “door,” “window,” or “floor transition”)
2. Stage the Details for Download
After selecting the details you want to standardize, click Stage for Download in Pirros. This prepares the selected details to be added into your Revit model for editing and conversion:
3. Download into a Revit Model
Next, you’ll download the details into the Revit model that will serve as your Typical Details Model.
If you already have a Typical Details Model:
Download the details directly into that model.
If you don’t have one yet you can create a new Revit model using your firm’s standard template:
Click the Pirros tab in Revit and click Download to start downloading the staged details:
When prompted to link this model to an active project, open the dropdown menu and select Typical Details. Click Save:
You will then get a pop up listing all the details being downloaded into the model.
You will get to chose Use Pirros Imports for View Sorting, which drops the views that you download into the top of your project browser under a "Pirros Imports" section for easy grabbing (we would recommend moving the details out of this section once you have cleaned and vetted them for the standards)
If you don't leave this checked on, the details will fall into your project browser in the same location they were seen in the original model they came from
You will get to chose whether to Prevent Duplicate Families from being created. This will read the names of the families coming in from the downloaded details and override them with the existing family in your current revit model to avoid creating duplicates.
Click OK:
(Note: More than one model can be linked to the Typical Details section in Pirros.)
Tip: When you download details, they will automatically update to the version of Revit you’re currently using. To keep your library compatible with multiple projects, it’s best to maintain it in the earliest version of Revit still used by your firm.
4. Edit and Finalize the Details
With the details downloaded into Revit, open each one and make any necessary edits or updates to reflect your firm’s standard design and graphic preferences.
This is your opportunity to clean up linework, ensure naming conventions are consistent, and confirm that the details meet your quality standards.
5. Sync as Typical Details back to Pirros
Once the edits are complete, you’ll push the details back into Pirros as official Typical Details.
In Revit, go to the Pirros tab
Click Upload → Sync
Because the Revit model has been designated as a “Typical Details” model, the uploaded details will automatically be saved to your firm’s Typical Details library in Pirros.
Summary
By following these steps, your team can efficiently convert frequently used project details into standardized typical details within Pirros.
This workflow ensures that:
Standard details remain consistent and version-controlled.
The typical details library continues to grow organically as your team identifies new standards.
Your firm saves time and maintains design quality across all projects.
