How Automatic Multi-Versioning Works in Pirros

What happens when Pirros automatically delivers content in a different Revit version at download — and when to use automatic delivery vs. a paid upgrade artifact.

When someone on your team loads a family or detail from Pirros into Revit, Pirros automatically converts the file to match their Revit version — even if that version was never explicitly uploaded — and saves that additional version inside Pirros. No setup required, no credits needed.

Free to use: Automatic multi-versioning is included with your Pirros subscription and does not use credits.

How It Works

  1. You load a family or detail from Pirros into Revit

  2. Pirros checks if a version exists for your Revit version

  3. If yes — it's delivered directly

  4. If no — Pirros finds the nearest Revit version below yours that exists in your library and converts it up to match

  5. The converted file is loaded into Revit and saved inside Pirros

One direction only: Pirros can only convert upward — older to newer. If your library only has a 2024 file and someone is on Revit 2022, Pirros cannot downgrade it.

When This Is Enough

  • Your team is on mixed Revit versions and you don't want anyone blocked

  • You have a one-off need — one project, one person, one version

  • Your library was uploaded on an older version and most of your team has already upgraded

When to Use a Paid Upgrade Instead

A paid upgrade saves an upgraded version to your library without need to download into Revit. For full details on how paid upgrades work, see Multi-Version Upgrades: Get Pirros Content in Any Revit Version You Need. Use it when:

  • You're moving the whole firm to a new Revit version and want native files ready for everyone

  • You want to upgrade your whole library at once instead of converting file-by-file at download

  • Speed matters — stored versions deliver faster than on-the-fly conversions

When the Original Detail Is Edited

When a typical detail is edited and synced to Pirros, all "upgraded" versions will cease to exist.

FAQ

Does this cost anything?

No. It's included in your subscription.

Will the converted file be saved?

Yes — it's saved inside Pirros and searchable/filterable in the search area.

My library is on Revit 2022. A user is on 2025 — will it work?

Yes. Pirros converts the 2022 file to 2025 automatically. No action needed.

Can Pirros convert to an older version?

No. Conversion only goes from older to newer — same as Revit itself. If you need an older version, it needs to be uploaded from that version of Revit.

If I edit a typical detail, do my auto-converted versions update too?

No. When the original typical is edited, all auto-converted versions will cease to exist inside of Pirros. Only the base file Revit version will exist.

How do I know which option is right for us?

If your team has mixed versions or occasional one-off needs, automatic delivery will cover you. If you're doing a firm-wide transition or need files searchable by version — go with a paid upgrade. Your CSM can help you decide.
