Update Existing Details in Pirros

Edit a detail in Revit and sync the updated version back to Pirros.

Updated this week

To push an updated detail from Revit back to Pirros, open your container model, make your edits, and sync. Pirros creates a new version and notifies anyone who previously downloaded the detail.

Prerequisites: You need the Admin role, the Pirros Revit plugin installed, and access to the container model downloaded from Pirros (to preserve Pirros IDs).

How notifications work: When a detail is updated, Pirros automatically notifies anyone at your firm who downloaded that detail into an active project within the past year. These notifications are informational — they do not automatically update Revit models.

How to Update a Detail

  1. Open the container model in Revit (the version downloaded from Pirros)

  2. Find the detail that needs changes and make your edits

A detail view open in Revit showing the area being edited. Make your changes — update annotations, fix dimensions, or modify geometry as needed.

  1. Click Sync in the Pirros plugin.

  1. Under Filter Views, select Recently Changed Views to see only the details you modified

  2. Toggle on Show Views Not on Sheets if you need to see un-sheeted details

The Filter Views dropdown set to "Recently Changed Views" and the "Show Views Not on Sheets" toggle. Use these to filter the list to only the details you updated.

  1. Select the detail(s) you updated from the list

  2. Type a description of what changed in the Change Message box

The sync dialog showing selected details and the Change Message field. Write a meaningful description — for example, "Updated flashing detail per 2024 IBC requirements" — so your team knows what changed and why.

  1. Click Confirm

The Confirm button at the bottom of the sync dialog. Click it to push the updated detail to Pirros.

Verify the Update on Pirros

After syncing, verify the update on the Pirros website:

  1. Navigate to the Details page and search for the detail you updated

  2. Click on it, then click Open Full Detail

  3. Click History in the left panel to see the version timeline

The detail's History tab showing version entries. Each entry includes what was updated, the change message, who made the update, and when it was made. The most recent version appears at the top.

What Happens Next

The updated detail is live on Pirros within minutes. Anyone who previously downloaded this detail into an active project within the past year receives an email notification about the new version. The notification is informational — it does not automatically change their Revit model. They can choose to re-download the updated version at their discretion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I synced but Pirros created a duplicate instead of updating. What happened?

A: You likely edited a copy of the model that wasn't downloaded from Pirros, so it lacked Pirros IDs. Always work from the version of the container model downloaded from Pirros. See Understanding the Container Model for details.

Q: Can members update details, or only admins?

A: By default, only admins can sync (push changes to Pirros). Members can flag details for review, and admins can then make the update.

Q: What if I need to revert to a previous version?

A: Open the detail's full page on Pirros, go to the History tab, and use the revert option to restore a previous version. This requires the Revert Details permission.

Q: Will the change message be visible to all users?

A: Yes. Anyone who views the detail's History tab can see all change messages. Write descriptive messages so your team understands what changed and why.
