Understanding Stashes: User vs Firm

The difference between personal stashes and firm-wide stashes — and when to use each.

Updated this week

Pirros has two types of stashes: User Stashes (personal) and Firm Stashes (shared with everyone). Knowing the difference helps you collaborate effectively and find pre-built detail sets without re-creating them.

User Stashes

A User Stash is a personal collection of details that you create for your own use.

  • Created by: Any user (member or admin)

  • Visible to: Only you, until you share it

  • Purpose: Gather details for a specific project, task, or review before downloading

  • Sharing: You can share a user stash with specific colleagues by clicking the share icon and selecting their names. They receive a notification.

How to share a stash:

User stashes are ideal for:

  • Collecting details while researching a specific condition

  • Preparing a set of details to download into your Revit project

  • Sharing a curated set with a colleague working on the same project

Firm Stashes

A Firm Stash is a pre-built collection created by an admin and visible to everyone at your firm.

  • Created by: Admins only

  • Visible to: All users in the workspace

  • Purpose: Provide grab-and-go detail sets that any team member can access without searching

  • Editing: Only admins can add, remove, or modify details in a firm stash

Firm stashes are ideal for:

  • Standard detail packages for common project types (e.g., "Residential Foundation Set," "Commercial Restroom Package")

  • Onboarding new team members with curated starting-point details

  • Pre-assembling detail sets that match your firm's typical scope of work

How to Find Stashes

  1. Click Stashes in the top navigation bar

  2. You'll see two tabs: User Stashes and Firm Stashes

  3. Click into any stash to view its contents, download details, or export to PDF

Key Difference: The Firm Stash Toggle

When an admin creates a stash, they must turn on the Firm Stash toggle at creation time. This toggle determines whether the stash is personal or firm-wide. It cannot be changed after the stash is created.

Important: If an admin creates a stash but forgets the firm toggle, it becomes a personal user stash. To make it firm-wide, the admin needs to create a new stash with the toggle on and move the details over.

What Happens Next

After opening a stash, you can:

  • Stage for Download to send all details to your Revit download queue

  • Export to PDF to create a multi-page PDF for markups or sharing

  • Export Detail Files to download the .rvt files as a ZIP

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I create a Firm Stash as a regular member?

A: No. Only admins can create firm stashes. If you've built a useful user stash that should be available to everyone, ask your admin to recreate it as a firm stash.

Q: Can I edit a Firm Stash?

A: Only admins can add or remove details from firm stashes. As a member, you can view and download from them but not modify them.

Q: When I click Stage for Download on a stash, does it download only the details I selected?

A: No. Stage for Download queues ALL details in the stash, regardless of which ones you've selected or highlighted. This is by design — it's a batch operation for the entire stash.

Q: I'm getting too many notifications about stash activity. How do I stop them?

A: Go to your account settings and adjust your notification preferences. You can reduce or disable notifications for stash updates.
